DOON brothers Brian and Gerard McPartland featured with New York (NY), winners over Tyrone in the Nicky Rackard Senior Hurling Cup Final at Croke Park over the May Bank Holiday Weekend.

Only a year earlier, the McPartland’s were part of the Exiles panel which won the Lory Meagher Cup decider at the same venue.

Brian wore the number five jersey in the 2-22 to 2-17 win at GAA headquarters, while Gerard was an unused substitute.

The brothers were born in NY but grew up in East Limerick with their parents Ann (Doon) and Gerry (Drumkeeran, county Leitrim) and siblings James and Jack.

Brother James Dormer was an influential figure on all the McParlands in their sporting time in Doon, which also involved underage representation for both Rackard Cup winners with Limerick.

For the last 20 years, NY did not participate in any Championship, and now, following back-to-back triumphs, will feature in the second-tier Christy Ring Cup next season.

Meanwhile, former Limerick senior Cathal Mullane (0-3, Killeedy) and Martin Farrell (0-4, Blackrock) both lined-out for Longford, 1-18 to 1-13 winners against Leitrim in the Lory Meagher Cup Final at the Jones’ Road venue.

Vice-captain Mullane has played in over 100 competitive fixtures for his adopted county.

“I moved up for work initially,” he told Gaa.ie. “The opportunity came to play hurling for Longford. The manager at the time, Frank Browne, gave me a call probably October or November 2013 – it was something that never crossed my mind.”

14-person Limerick posted a great 3-13 to 1-14 home victory against Offaly in the All-Ireland Senior Championship on Bank Holiday Saturday.

An early feature was a stunning save from Sarah Gillane (Patrickswell).

Scorers: Donna Kenny (1-10, Croagh/Kilfinny), Laura Southern (1-2, Monaleen), Lizanna Boyland (1-0, Na Piarsaigh), Ciara Curtin (0-1, Templeglantine).

Limerick are away to Clare this weekend.
