AN OUTPOURING of grief has been shared following the unexpected passing of one of the stalwarts of Limerick’s hospitality community.

Anne Cahill (neé Browne), proprietor of the beloved Myles Breen’s pub on Shannon Street in Limerick City, late of The Elms, North Circular Road, Limerick City, passed away unexpectedly in her home this past Monday (June 1).

She will be laid to rest on Saturday (June 6) in Castlemungret Cemetery, after funeral mass at Our Lady of the Rosary Church.

A wave of tributes have been paid to the late Ms Cahill in the days since her passing, with many remembering her for her sense of humour and fun, kindness, her warm welcome, and her deep love for her family, describing her as “a wonderful, kind person, a great neighbour” and a “wonderful mother and grandmother”.

“I have such fond memories of her in our school days in Laurel Hill. I can still see her flying down Henry Street on her bike after school. She was a kind, fun loving individual,” one mourner wrote in an online tribute.

Another said that they felt “so lucky to have known Anne since I was a kid and I have such amazing memories with her and the girls. She was always so generous, especially with the kids. She had a heart of gold.”

Her strong bond with her late husband Tom, with whom she bought Myles Breen’s pub in the late 1980s, and who passed away in March 2000, was also noted, with another mourner saying: “I will always remember her pure love for Tom, and how much she missed him after his passing in 2000. It is I hope of some comfort to think of them reunited once again.”

“Anne was a true lady, full of life and love with that brilliant laugh in Kilkee and absolutely adored her family,” another said.

Ballyfermot Assumption parish priest Fr Adrian Egan remembered Ms Cahill for “many a wave, chat, and greeting shared when passing by her beloved home in Kilkee”.

Ms Cahill is survived by her daughters Niamh, Mary, Sheila, and Áine, their partners Barry, Dean, Ben, and Jack, her brothers Noel, Des, Ken, and Michael, grandchildren Ava, Jasper, Jacob, Sam, Thomas, Oliver, and Freddie, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, and her many friends and admirers.

She is pre-deceased by her beloved husband Tom and her late sister Sheila.

Ms Cahill will be reposing at Griffin’s Funeral Home tomorrow (Friday) from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. Requiem Mass will take place on Saturday at Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Ennis Road, from 12pm, followed by burial at Castlemungret Cemetery.
