LIMERICK people and visitors will be able to enjoy a night at the museums – or at last an evening – following the announcement of €20,350 in funding to support later opening hours and evening cultural programming.
€7,500 of that funding has been earmaked for the Hunt Museum while Foynes Aviation and Maritime Museum will receive €5,000, while the People’s Museum of Limerick benefits to the tune of €7,850
The money comes from Government funding under the After Hours at the Museum Scheme, Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport Patrick O’Donovan announced.
A total of €20,350 has been awarded to Limerick organisations to support later opening hours and evening cultural programming, helping more people experience the county’s culture outside traditional opening times.
Mr O’Donovan said: “I am delighted to see more than €20,000 being invested in three outstanding museums here in Limerick. These institutions play a vital role in preserving and sharing our history, culture and heritage.
“Not everyone can visit museums during normal opening hours. By supporting later openings, we are making culture more accessible while also helping to build a vibrant and diverse night- time economy in Limerick.”
