A LIMERICK pensioner stabbed a man in a pub after the victim failed to put a bet on winning Aintree horse.

78-year-old Eddie Holman of Bruach na Siona, Castleconnell pleaded guilty to assaulting the victim at Devane’s Pub in Hospital Co Limerick and to producing a kitchen utility knife on the same date.

The 45-year-old victim suffered three stab wounds to the back of his head, forehead and chest in the attack after it is understood he failed to place a bet on the instruction of the pensioner.

Both men had been socialising in the county Limerick pub before the assault on April 13, 2012

The 78-year-old pensioner had given the victim a sum of money for the bet but he failed to place the bet and the horse subsequently won.

A fight broke out and the pensioner produced a knife and attacked the man.

This week, Holman was arraigned before Judge Carroll Moran and two pleas of guilty were entered.

The pensioner was released on bail on the same conditions until October 25 next when he will be sentenced by Judge Moran.
