It is understood that the man entered the water at Georges Quay and was swept down river before emergency rescue crews located him in the water between a pontoon and a navigational mark at the rear of the Limerick City Marina.

Members of the Limerick Marine Search and Rescue were also on scene to assist in the recovery of the male from the water to the rapid response boats where CPR was carried out.

The Shannon based Irish coast guard helicopter Rescue 115 was also deployed to the scene, along with Gardai, to assist in the multi agency operation.

The man was transferred to awaiting Emergency Paramedics who were at O’Callaghan’s Strand and then transferred to the University Hospital Limerick.

The man, understood to be in his 30s, was pronounced dead later on Wednesday evening.
