Elderly woman tragically killed at Limerick car park

AN ELDERLY woman in her 80s has died after being struck by a reversing jeep at a Limerick bank car park this Wednesday morning.

Shortly after 10am, emergency services were alerted to the accident in the car park adjacent to the Castletroy branch of the Ulster Bank when a woman became trapped under a jeep that appeared to be leaving the car park space.

Three units from Limerick Fire and Rescue Service together with gardai and three ambulances from the National Ambulance Service arrived at the scene and tended to the victim before she was taken to the University Hospital Limerick.

The woman, who became trapped, tragically died as a result of her injuries and a garda forensic collision investigator has conducted a preliminary investigation and the woman’s remains are to be removed from the scene and brought to the University Hospital Limerick for post mortem examination.
