Art Students in fashion competition

THE Irish Persil Fashion Awards are in it’s tenth year, with eight finalists selected, four from Limerick Art school.

The largest fashion design competition in Ireland offers a prize of 10,000 for the best designed garment.

Irish fashion designer Peter O’Brien launched the Persil Irish Fashion Awards 2009 and is pictured here.

The brief for this year’s finalists is to celebrate Persil’s 100th Birthday which takes place this year.

Students were asked to think about their favourite era of fashion between 1900-2009, and how fashion has evolved over the last  500 years.

One of the chosen eight, local art student, Rachel Mc Grath, 23, told The Limerick Post that she sees this competition as a great way to showcase her talent, prove her capabilities and help her achieve her aspirations. “I want to move to New York or Paris. I would love to work for a fashion house “.
