Jet makes emergency landing at Shannon

A PLANE carrying 179 passengers and crew was forced to make an emergency landing at Shannon airport this evening.
The Alitalia Boeing 767 aircraft was travelling from Milan to JFK in New York, when it transmitted a distress call to Shannon Air Traffic Control.

It is understood the pilot suffered a suspected heart attack and required medical assistance.
Emergency services at the airport, were put on standby and the plane landed safely around 5pm.
