Johne Murphy to join Munster

OPTING to bolster their backline with a utility player, Munster have swooped on the Leicester Tigers top try scorer, Johne Murphy. The 25-year-old Kildare born player will join Munster at the end of the current season on a two year contract. As an Ireland A international, Murphy initially joined the Tigers on loan in the 2005/06 season and made his debut for them in September 2006 against Harlequins at The Stoop and after 19 appearances ended the season with a call up to the Ireland Churchill Cup squad.

He has made 93 appearances to date for the Tigers scoring 27 tries and was their leading try scorer last season.

Speaking about the news Tony McGahan said, “Munster are delighted to sign a young ambitious Irish outside back such as Johne. After being part of a very successful period with Leicester we look forward to Johne’s participation on and off the field with Munster. His strong ball carrying, strong individual defence and finishing ability from either wing or fullback are some of the attributes we are looking forward to Johne bringing to the backline division.”
