Flannery to appear before citing committee

-

JERRY Flannery, the Munster and Ireland hooker, will appear before a independent disciplinary committee following the player being cited by Peter Brown, the commissioner in charge for the game. The Scottish independent commissioner lodged the citing within the given 48 hour period after the game, following an alleged kick on French winger, Alexix Palisson (11) during Ireland’s clash with the French last Saturday in Paris.

The alleged kick was deemed to be in contravention of Law 10.4 (c) {Kicking. A player must not kick an opponent. Penalty: Penalty Kick}.

During the game, referee Wayne Barnes, consulted with his touch judge and awarded a penalty against the Irish hooker for a “shoulder charge”.

Flannery will appear at the hearing this Wednesday morning at Dublin Airport. The independent hearing will be chaired by Roger Morris (Wales) with the other two members being John Doubleday and Mike Hamil (England).

If the Limerick man is found guilty, the lower end for a contravention of the law is a two week ban while the upper end is a 12 week ban for a kick. There is a seven week ban for a trip on another player.
