Love that sound – Miracle Bell interview

Miracle Bell released new single, ‘Love Sounds’ last week from the album ‘Light Shape Sound’. This breezy summer single is accompanied by an equally breezy, upbeat video featuring the band running, playing, cycling and even doing a dance routine in side by side unison in separate takes, Limerick Post asked singer Dave Prendergast for the low down on the latest video, “The video was made by Simon Eustace from The Chapters, was shot in Weston Aerodrome near Celbridge Co. Kildare.

He does all the Chapters and Coronas videos and said he’d love to direct a video for us, filming each member of the band in one long take, we were hoping to do all the video at night but we ran out of darkness and finished it at 6 O’Clock next morning.” Miracle Bell and especially the song ‘Love Sounds’ has a sound that is very now, it’s mix of dark synth lines, samples with pure pop catchiness would not be out of place on the very trendy Kitsuné label, (home to Two Door Cinema Club) but Dave points out that “Essentially we are a rock band that uses samples live but we tried to make the album as much of a crossover album as possible with bigger beats”.

As for remixes the band are exploring the possibility with their producer, particularly the albums opening track ‘Thank you computer man’ but “don’t want to go too far down that road” themselves preferring to let dance music producers take the helm for any forthcoming remixes.

Having played Limerick a few times before, Miracle Bell are looking forward to their return to Baker Place on Friday July 23 and their HMV appearance earlier that day, “We love coming down to Limerick, we have yet to have a bad gig in Limerick, I hope I haven’t jinxed it by saying that.”

The band who won a slot at Oxygen 2007 in a band competition are now looking forward to playing sets this summer at Indiependance, Mitchlestown and Electric Picnic. Looking back over the progress made by the group in the last four years, Dave assessed. “When we played Oxygen, it was a Battle of the Bands that we won, it gave us the impetus to go on, really get stuck into writing so the next time we play Oxygen, it will be on merit, not due to a competition win”. On the upcoming festival appearances Dave revealed, “Now that we found our sound we are looking forward to playing the bigger shows. One good performance at a festival can get you a lot of attention.” Check out Miracle Bell at Bakers this Friday July 23.
