Music notes from September 4

Cruises Street is to be the location for a one day festival of music, comedy and drama on Saturday October 2. Two stages at either end of the street will host live bands, comedy acts and drama pieces, with balladeers The High Kings and quirky Dublin shock rockers Fight Like Apes set to headline with local heroes Supermodel Twins and Windings supporting. Later With Jools Holland returns for it’s 37th series in September, a run that will see it chalk up its 250th programme.The premier music series returns to BBC on Tuesday September 14 at 10pm, with the live 30-minute show followed by the longer version on Fridays. To celebrate the 250th edition, there will be a compilation show on BBC Two on Saturday September 11 where artists and fans select their favourite moments from the show.

Speakeasy Jazz returns to The Shannon Rowing Club after a summer break on Thursday September 23. The gig will feature the sultry voice of Dorota Koncewska backed by The Black Coffee Quartet.
