O’Connell faces disciplinary hearing this week

-

MUNSTER’s tallisman and second row international star and Lion, Paul O’Connell, will face a disciplinary committee on Thursday December 16 next following his sending off in last Sunday’s Heineken Cup battle at Thomond Park against the Ospreys.

O’Connell, a replacement on the hour mark, lasted just 10 minutes in the match as he was sent from the field for striking Ospreys number 8 Jonathon Thomas.

The red card was issued in the 69th minute of the game by French referee Christophe Berdos after the touch judge notified him of the off the ball incident.

The Munster lock returned to action last week in the Magners league before being included on the bench to face the Ospreys last Sunday. O’Connell spent the last eight months sidelined through injury.

HHJ Jeff Blackett, (England) has been appointed as the independent judicial officer for the hearing that is scheduled to take place at the ERC offices in Dublin later this week.

O’Connell has been cited in contravention of Law 10.4 (a) Striking – A player must not strike an opponent.
