Exciting new acts for 2011

Chinese State Circus
The Chinese State Circus presents the arts of precision acrobatics, Shaolin martial arts and Chinese circus skills in a family entertainment show based on one of China’s greatest heroines.

Mulan is the story of a country girl who joined the Chinese Emperor’s all-male army in place of her father who was too old to fight. Her epic exploits and skills in the art of war saw her rise to the rank of General and no one ever discovered her secret identity. The show features gravity-defying gymnastics and a leaping, somersaulting repertoire of hoop dives and kung fu martial arts from the Shaolin Wushu Warriors.
The title role of Mulan is performed by martial arts expert, Cao Jing who started learning martial arts when she was only six years old. Her 15 years of Kung Fu training is showcased in a dramatic fight sequence in which she encounters a giant warrior.
The Chinese State Circus appears at UCH on Sunday February 6 at 5pm.

Unite 2011

Limerick’s independant club promoters have come together to create a monthly showcase gig starting this Saturday, January 15. Collectives such as Micronite, Dubblebass, FRIEd, Filthy Dubstep Bastards and Sweatbox will showcase their various styles and genres in one monthly big ‘access all areas’ night. This Saturday in Dolan’s sees Micronite residents Dan Sykes, Ruan Flodd & Niki go head to head in an all out DJ battle against the Filthy Dubstep Crew, Don the Intimadator & Deadly Buzz in a full on Techno and Raw Dubstep battle royale. The Terrace is hosted by FRIEd welcoming Limerick exile Chris Moore performing a monome set in the company of Dublin’s Fraher and Nick Fury. Unite 2011 promises to bring the best of Limerick’s underground DJs to one venue for one night for one price once a month.
