Sentenced for possession of heroin at Garda station

WITH 103 previous convictions and currently serving a prison sentence while also on remand for a Circuit Court matter, 28-year-old Paul Foran was before Judge Tom O’Donnell at Limerick District Court charged with possession of heroin. Foran, with an address at North Claughaun Road, Garryowen, was arrested on public order matters on July 13 last and while he was being detained and questioned at Henry Street Garda Station, he was found to be in possession of a quantity of heroin on his person.

Sarah Ryan, solicitor, said that despite the large number of convictions against her client, Foran did not have similar previous convictions for possession of heroin.
She added that her client was in custody for the last six months awaiting matters at the Circuit Court.

Judge O’Donnell took this into consideration and gave credit for the guilty plea. He convicted and sentenced Foran to two months in prison, backdated it to November 3 last, the date he commenced his last sentence for possession of a knife, theft and public order matters.
