Milk Market earmarked for concerts

Michael Sheahan takes over from David O’Mahony
LIMERICK’S refurbished Milk Market is gearing itself to become a concert venue, with Cllr Michael Sheahan, newly installed chairman of the Market Trustees, insisting he wants it to be mentioned in the same breath as Thomond Park.

This newspaper understands that negotiations are underway for the first concerts at the venue, based on the intimate model of the successful Marquee series in Cork, which attracts international and Irish acts over the summer months.
Businessman, David O’Mahony, has resigned as chairman of the Market Trustees.
He oversaw the €2million redevelopment to an all- weather venue.
He told the Limerick Post: “I figured it was time to go. I had contributed a significant amount of time to the position and it was time to hand it over to someone else”.
He is to remain as a Trustee to the end of the year.
“Cllr Sheahan expressed a lot of interest in the role so I nominated him”.
The new chairman gave credit to his predecessor:
“I owe a lot to David for a smooth transfer.
“Now I want the Milk Market to have the same reputation in this city as Thomond Park”.
