16 days to highlight violence against women

EVENTS are taking place all over Limerick city and county this week and next to mark the international 16 Days of Action Against Violence Against Women campaign. The Local Area Network (LAN) is officially launching the event this Thursday, November 24 at the Savoy Hotel. ADAPT Services will have an information stand at the Crescent Shopping Centre each Wednesday from 9.30am to 6pm, while on November 28, a Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Awareness Event will be held at 2pm in Pery’s Hotel, Glentworth Street. Adapt is also beneficiary to a coffee morning in Newcastle West on December 7.

Dr Siobhan O’Connor of Doras Luimni, said the free event, open to all, “could be particularly relevant to those involved in childcare, education, maternity services, general practice, domestic violence or community development.
“If a child is in pain or regularly sick, there is a possibility this is a cause, or when women present in childbirth, professionals need to be aware of it”.
The Southill Domestic Abuse Project will host an information and pampering session this Friday, November 25, at 9.30am, open to all.  On Wednesday November 30, Doras Luimni will hold an awareness raising coffee morning at their premises on O’Connell Avenue.
To mark World Aids Day on December 1 the Red Ribbon Project will launch a photographic exhibition followed by a remembrance service at St Mary’s Cathedral.  *The Limerick Post is hosting a donation box for toys for ADAPT Services. See ad on page 35 this issue.
