Two remain in custody over Kelly and Waters murders

TWO men in their 30s remain in custody this Wednesday in connection with the murders of Breda Waters and Des Kelly. Two females and one juvenile male were released without charge. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. Last Tuesday, the five people were arrested in connection with the murders of the couple at a house in O’Malley Park on January 8 last. Three males, two in their 30s and one juvenille, were originally detained for questioning on Tuesday morning while two females, one teenager and another in her late 50s, were also in custody

under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act 1939.

 

The five are detained at Roxboro, Henry Street, Mayorstone and Bruff Garda Stations after gardai arrested them as part of a planned operation. The two males who no remain in custody are being detained in Roxboro and Bruff Garda Stations.

While two men are currently before the courts charged in connection with the investigation, the operation as a whole is continuing.

23-year-old Des Kelly and his 28-year-old girlfriend Breda Waters were shot at a house in O’Malley Park in the early hours of the morning after a party in what was described locally as a “double tragedy”. Both suffered a gunshot wound each to the head.

The investigation continues and the five can be detained for a period of 24 hours before Gardai must seek extensions to the detentions.
