National newspaper sets Limerick challenge

A NATIONAL newspaper is putting up a €5,000 prize fund for any individual or group that can come up with the best idea to promote the city.  Paul Henderson, managing editor of the Irish Daily Mail told the Limerick Post that the newspaper was committed to seeing through the promised prize fund, but that the initiative should be followed through by local people. “I’ve always had great experiences coming to Limerick with the International Rules, which the Irish Daily Mail sponsors.

“Locals, Limerick City Council, Shannon Development and newsagents are always brilliant and everyone is so enthusiastic about promoting the city.  “You get sucked in by that,” said the Dubliner.
“The idea was totally spontaneous but we are inviting anyone to submit ideas of what they would like to see happen in Limerick.
“It would be great if school groups, clubs and individuals got involved.”
He said that Limerick people were “great at putting themselves down,” but that everyone should rally together to bring vitality back to the city centre.
“We will do what we need to in the newspaper to support it, but it should be local thing, by and for local people”.
