Family of Tallaght shooting victim believed to be from Limerick

THE family of a teenage girl killed in a drive- by shooting in Tallaght in Dublin this week, are believed to be originally from Newcastle West.
16-year-old Melanie McCarthy, also known by the surname McNamara, was shot at from an SUV while she sat in a car at Brookview Way in Tallaght.
She received a bullet to the head and was rushed to Tallaght Hospital, where she died a short time later.

 

Gardaí are following a line of inquiry that Ms. McCarthy was not the intended victim.
A post mortem examination of the body is to be carried out and the State Pathologist has been notified.
The scene was preserved pending a full technical and forensic examination.
Local politicians west Limerick were not familiar with the family in question when contacted by the Limerick Post.
“This an absolutely horrific incident. and will not be tolerated,” said Minister for Justice, Alan Shatter of the incident.
