Local barrister wants pride back in FF

BARRISTER and Pallaskenry man, Emmett O’Brien, is to stand for election to Fianna Fail’s National Executive with the aim of assisting the party “build from the grassroots up”.  The practising 32-year-old barrister is standing for election on the National Executive after the and county Limerick farmer was nominated by a number of Fianna Fail Cumann across the county. “If I am elected to the Committee of 20, I will actively ensure Fianna Fail rebuilds from the grassroots up so we will have a vibrant structure in place for the local elections in 2014.

I will also actively ensure that Fianna Fáil offers a coherent, credible and positive voice to small and medium contractors, farmers and businesses who are being met with unnecessary daily burdens without any security by the government,” said Mr O’Brien, who was one of the founding members of West Limerick Ogra Fianna Fáil.
Mr O’Brien has practised as a barrister in Limerick, Clare and Kerry since July 2004.
“I was educated locally in Scoil Mhuire National School and in Salesian College, Pallaskenry. I studied Law and German in UCC and graduated in 2002. After college I studied at Kings Inns and was called to the Bar in July 2004,” he explained.
During his time in UCC he was Chairman of the Donagh O’Malley Fianna Fáil Cumann for one year.
“Since returning to Limerick I got involved once again in local organisations,” he said.
“I am the Vice-Chairman of Kildimo-Pallaskenry GAA and I continue to play hurling. I am one of the founding members of the Pallaskenry Playground Committee which intends to provide a playground for the families and children of the locality and surrounding areas. I am an active member of the community and sit on the Board of Management of the Scoil Mhuire National School and the Board of Directors of Cois Sionna Credit Union, Askeaton County Limerick,” he outlined.
Mr O’Brien has appealed to all Limerick Fianna Fail delegates to attend the Ard Fheis to support him and Gerry Collins who is running for the position of Honourary Secretary of Fianna Fail. The election takes place on Saturday the 3rd of March 2012 which ensure a gender quota of 10 men and 10 women sit on the Committee of Twenty. Mr O’Brien said “We need to put the pride back in Fianna Fail and the pride back in Ireland”.
