LONG sought-after traffic calming measures are to be installed at Ballyneety village as Limerick County Council has allocated €70,000 for the purpose.The allocation is part of a wider grant of €300,000 that has been identified to fund improvement works from Donoughmore Cross to Ballyneety village.
The R1512 will be resurfaced in several locations with measures being put in place on the approach to the village to combat speeding.
“Limerick County Council will use the funding for the laying of ducting and sleeves for the installation of public lighting columns on the way into the village as part of the effort to get motorists to reduce their speed as they approach Ballyneety Village,” Cllr John Egan FG., explained.
“There will also be a footpath installed along the R1512 to link Bellewood and The Glen estates, which are located on the golf course in the village”.
Cllr Egan said that since the last local election, he had been urging Limerick County Council to prioritise traffic calming measures in the village as there were fears amongst locals about the safety of pedestrians crossing the road, particularly at night.
“I’m delighted to see that my efforts to secure this funding have proven worthwhile and commend Limerick County Council for identifying the importance of this project”.
