Great Friday is back

Limerick’s multi-music festival is back after taking a bit of a break in 2011. The line-up for the outdoor festival happening at Holycross AFC, near Bruff on Good Friday is Benoit and the Other Halves, Bouts, Brad Pitt Light Orchestra and Protobaby. The Dance Tent has secured 11 of the best DJs to get you moving & grooving. This year the chill out tent has been dubbed “Dud Conciousness” and will feature the finest selection of Roots Reggae and Dub brought to you by Roots Factory selekta Frankie Dredd with guest DJs.

Great Friday’s diverse line up means it attracts a similarly diverse crowd and the event has become famed for its ‘feel good’ vibe.
The event was run from 2008 to 2010 and grew to an event attracting in the region of a thousand guests from all over Munster and some thirty performers spread over three stages. The event is held every Good Friday, hence the name.
The festival grew from a house party which itself started off as a small five person gathering and grew into an event which attracted some two hundred and fifty people to be entertained by two bands and a DJ in a small semi detached house in Rhebogue.
Last year the event was not held. One of the principal organisers was attempting to fulfil a dream by reaching the summit of the world’s highest mountain. Mark Quinn is now the youngest Irish person to stand at the peak of Mt Everest and he is eager to return to organise Limerick’s Great Friday festival.
In a change of direction the organisers have this year announced the name of the venue in advance and are offering a limited number of parking passes for sale via their website www.greatfriday.ie.
