The fairest of them all
MIRROR MIRROR updates the Snow White fairy tale, and offers a light and amusing distraction from more recent screen offerings.
Gloriously costumed and visually sumptuous, it has a cast led by Julia Roberts as The Queen; Lily Collins (daughter of Phil) as Snow White, Arnie Hammer (Prince Albert) and Nathan Lane (Brighton).
If there is a fault it is that the story moves at a slow pace.
Unlike other Snow White films, there are beefed up roles for the seven dwarves.  Indian born Tarsem Singh directs.
Meet Albert Nobbs-on April 27
IN a role that six- time Academy Award nominee Glenn Close portrayed in the off-Broadway play The Singular Life of Albert Nobbs thirty years ago, Close brings the endearing tale of Albert Nobbs to the big screen on April 27.
Close leads an establishment of prestigious actors include Janet McTeer (Tumbleweeds), Brendan Gleeson, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Brenda Fricker, Pauline Collins and Maria Doyle Kennedy.
The Morrison’s Hotel hides many secrets and the unassuming and dedicated butler, Albert, is just one of them.
In 19th Century Ireland, with employment for women scarce, a young impoverished British girl made a radical decision to masquerade as a man to ensure her survival.  Many years later, her four walls come crashing down as secrets are uncovered leading to tension, drama, heartache and tragedy.
The script was co-written by Man Booker prize-winning novelist John Banville and Gabrielle Prekop.
