Public invited to UL to celebrate 40th anniversary

Feast of free entertainment on offer

IT is celebration time at UL from September 28-30 with a host of activities to mark the 40th anniversary of the admission of its first cohort of students in 1972. 
UL president Prof. Don Barry, sees this as the ideal opportunity for the general public to visit and appreciate the ever-expanding campus, enjoying a huge array of free activities and events.

There is the added bonus of free parking over the three days.
The full academic year will be marked with a series of events and initiatives involving staff, students, alumni and the many friends, supporters and members of the wider community who have been part of UL’s story over the past four decades.
The schedule of events includes:
Friday, September 28
* Face Value Expressions of 40 years of the UL community in Bourn Vincent Gallery. On view over three days.
*UL40 Photographic Exhibition Foundation Building – Featuring Images from campus developments over the last 40 years. On view over three days.
* 9am – 5pm Art and Craft Fair in the Foundation Building (UCH Atrium) an exhibition of paintings, homemade jewellery homemade greeting cards and preserves, paintings, needlework by staff and retired members of staff. Also on Saturday and Sunday.
* 9am – 5pm Farmer’s Market on the main Plaza, including Food Fiesta, Moulded Memories, Moody Cow MilkShakes, Crowe Farm Meats, Cranky Yankee Corn Dogs.
* 2pm – 5pm Spectacular International Food Fair in Foundation Building. 15 different countries exhibiting their traditional food.
* 12noon  - 3pm Live Entertainment on the UL40 stage at the Main University Plaza to include UL Bands, Limerick Jazz, Limerick bands Birdthistle, and Leading Armies; Vladimir (3.30pm), DJs and famous illusionist Keith Barry.
* Limerick’s Live 95FM will broadcast the ‘Limerick Today’ Show from Café Allegro from 9am – 12pm. 
Saturday
* 10am – 1pm Art and Craft Fair in the Foundation Building
* Guided Flora, Fauna and Walking Trails of UL Campus – Tours to commence from main Plaza at 11.30am, 1pm, 2.30pm, 4pm. Also on Sunday.
* Guided Art Trail Tours of University Collections Tours to commence from main Plaza at 11.30am, 1pm, 2.30pm, 4pm. Also on Sunday.
* Open Top Bus Tours of UL Campus at 1pm, 2pm, 3pm and 4pm. Also on Sunday.
Sunday
* 12 – 5pm Family Fun Day at UL Arena, UL Boathouse and All-Weather Pitches
* 11:30 – 2pm Free Swim and Gym at UL Arena
* Magic Shows, Face Painting, Balloon Modelling, Arts and Crafts and lots of Family Entertainment throughout the UL Campus
* Classic vintage cars, Harleys and Goldwing Motor Club display on the main Plaza
* 11:30 – 4pm Irish Chamber Orchestra Music Factory Family Fun Day in the Irish World Academy building.
* 2 – 5pm Brass and Pipe Bands and lots of musical entertainment throughout UL campus.
