Fan attack mars County Football final draw – Update

-

THE Limerick County Board CCC have handed down a 96 week ban to Martin Stokes, following his encroachment on the pitch and subsequent clash with James Kelly, at the end of the County Football Final. Stokes, father of Dromcollogher/Broadford’s Jason, has three days to appeal his GAA ban following the notification being received by his club.

Kelly, scorer of 2-2, was sent off for a second bookable offence in the final minutes of what had been a closely fought showpiece. A member of the crowd managed to make his way onto the field of play, before entering into an altercation with Kelly.

County Board secretary Mike O’Riordan has said this morning that the County Board will meet tonight to discuss the matter once the referee’s report has been filed. “It would be unwise to comment any further at this stage but it will be determined on Monday night if an investigation is to be launched.”

The replay of the county final itself will take place on Friday the 26th of October at 7.15pm, again, in the Gaelic Grounds.
