Southill youths thinking big

A GROUP of Southill youths are organising a community sports event to promote a healthy and positive attitude among young people in the area. Shane McCarthy from Southhill submitted his project โ€˜Shane Sports Festโ€™ at the recent Think Big nationwide workshop at the O2 headquarters in Dublin. Shane and his friends were among a number of young people who were awarded a place on the national Think Big programme, after successfully submitting an idea for a project in their community.

Think Big is a programme designed by O2 and Headstrong, the National Centre for Youth Mental Health, which enables young people to undertake projects in their community with the intention of making a difference to young peopleโ€™s mental health.
The training workshop was designed to help them get their projects started and covers a range of skills including project planning and social media skills.
Think Big granted โ‚ฌ300 initial funding for each project, along with a mobile phone with โ‚ฌ50 top-up, and a Think Big start-up pack. In addition, every participant will get mentoring support from O2 and Headstrong with the projects eligible for further funding as they progress.
