St Saviour’s Dominican Church in Limerick city centre is appealing for public support as it launches a restoration fund, kicking off with a fundraising dance night featuring Jimmy Buckley on Saturday May 30.

The event takes place at Greenhills Hotel, with doors opening at 7:30pm. Tickets are available through Eventbrite, from the parish office, or by phoning 086 816 1411. All proceeds will go directly to the church’s restoration fund.

The Dominican Order has been present in Limerick since the thirteenth century, and St Saviour’s Church itself dates to 1815. Next year, the Dominicans will mark 800 years of continuous presence in the city — a milestone that gives added weight to the current restoration appeal.

The church has long been a focal point for Limerick’s Catholic community, with generations of families marking significant life occasions within its walls. It is also home to the statue of Our Lady of Limerick, a figure of considerable spiritual and cultural importance to the city. Hidden during periods of religious persecution, the statue was later recovered and now stands within the church.

The building is now in need of significant repair works, and the parish has been open about the scale of the challenge, stating that the restoration cannot be achieved without public support.

Jimmy Buckley, one of Ireland’s best-known live entertainers, will headline the May 30 event. The evening is intended as both a fundraiser and a community occasion, and organisers expect strong demand for tickets.

The dance night marks the public launch of the restoration campaign, with further fundraising activity expected to follow.

Tickets are available now through Eventbrite, from the parish office at St Saviour’s Dominican Church, or by calling 086 816 1411.
