Limerick darts duo reach last 16 at World Cup

-

REPUBLIC of Ireland’s Limerick duo Connie Finnan and Willie O’Connor reached the last 16 at the PDC World Cup of Darts in Germany at the weekend.

Ireland had gone into the tournament as one of eight seeded nations and their first Group B match saw the Limerick pair record a comprehensive 5-0 win over Denmark on Friday night.

Despite losing their second match 5-4 to South Africa on Saturday afternoon, Ireland still did enough to top the group, earning a last 16 match against Japan.

There was to be disappointment for Finnan and O’Connor in this match, however, as the Asian team won 5-3 to deny Ireland a quarter-final spot.

The competition was ultimately won by England, represented by darts icon Phil Taylor and two-time world champion Adrian Lewis.
