LIMERICK will soon enter the Age Friendly County programme, a nationwide initiative aimed at making Irish counties a great place in which to grow old. The programme, which works from the premise that older people are a valuable resource to their communities and to society in general, was widely welcomed by both city and county council. The initiative will seek to form on alliance of senior managers across the local authorities, health service, police, business community, voluntary organisations and academic institutions, with representatives from the Older People’s Forum, chaired by the county/city manager.
