Limerick FC player counting the stars

naoise and gavinA LIMERICK FC under 19s footballer will jointly host a ball in the Inn at Dromoland in County Clare on Saturday November 16 to raise money for cancer hospices.

Gavin Whyte, along with his girlfriend Naoise MacCormac, will host the Counting The Stars Ball, with all proceeds going towards hospices in the region.

Naoise has lost two family members to cancer in the last year and she said that it’s a situation that many other families have faced. She added that they chose a ball as a fundraiser due to its inclusive nature.

“It’s not just me. Our friends on the committee who are helping us out have lost family members to cancer so everybody can relate to it. It’s a common disease and many people are affected by it.

“A ball gets people to come together. People are talking, having fun and getting up dancing, so a ball is a perfect opportunity for people to talk. That also gives us a chance to walk around and thank everyone for coming as well.”

There will be a DJ and a live band on the night, with doors open at 7pm on November 16. Gavin commended Limerick FC for the support they are offering in regards to publicising the event.

He said: “They have been brilliant. They’ve really promoted it; they have it up on Twitter, Facebook and on the club’s website as well. They’ve been really supportive and they’ve offered to help out whenever they can. It’s great to have such a backing built up and they’re helping to get the word out there.

“We’ve had so much feedback. The recognition has been more than we ever expected. The Facebook page has got well over 1,000 likes which is really good.”

Naoise explained that there is already a soaring demand for tickets for the Counting The Stars Ball, with the tickets due to go on sale in the near future.

“We’ve had such a high demand. People are asking already where are tickets being sold and once you tell them, they’ll buy them off us immediately. I’d say they’re going to sell like wildfire at this stage because people are really looking forward to it and it’s for such a good cause. It’s been amazing.”
