30 NEW jobs are on the way for Dooradoyle as German retailer ALDI has confirmed it is set to open doors at its newest Limerick location.

The new location will open on Thursday June 18 on the Dooradoyle Road, beside the well-known Collins Bar.

ALDI confirmed the new €13million store – the chain’s fifth in Limerick – will create 30 new permanent local jobs.

With the addition of the new staff, the retailer will boost its local workforce to over 120 across its five Limerick stores – which represent a collective €48m investment in Limerick.

According to ALDI, the new 1,820sq/m store will include an in-store bakery, self-service checkouts, 88 car parking spaces, and 10 electric vehicle charging points, and will open from 8am to 10pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 9pm on Sundays.

The delivery of the store has been a long time coming, with delays at planning level stalling the originally planned opening date from late 2024 to June 2026.

A number of objections over the development were also raised by some local groups during the planning phase, who previously claimed that the new store would cause traffic congestion, noise disturbance, and air and light polution, citing the passage of articulated trucks in the residential area specifically as a concern.

Speaking ahead of the store’s official opening on June 18, ALDI Dooradoyle store manager Michael Essex said: “I am incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received locally so far, and I look forward to welcoming our new Dooradoyle customers in-store to enjoy great value, quality produce, and an easy, enjoyable shopping experience.”

“Opening a new store is always exciting because you’re starting fresh and building something new together.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming customers and giving them a great shopping experience from day one.”
