After Dark – Morining Rose Pageant

THERE was so much going on in Bruff last weekend for the Bluegrass festival it was hard to choose what to feature but I thought I would bring you just some of the excitement and glamour from this year’s Morning Star Rose competition. We dropped in to find out who would be crowned winner at the final of the popular  pageant at Clancy’s Bar last Friday 4 night. JP Dillon from Limerick’s Live 95fm hosted the event as the girls vied for the top spot. It was a delighted Sarah Finn representing Mac’s Barbers who was eventually crowned the winning 2013 Morning Star Rose so congratulations, Sarah!
There were plenty of other highlights from this year’s 5th annual Bluegrass music festival which proved more successful than ever, thanks to the efforts of the local arts and cultural society in Bruff.
Bluegrass performers from all over Ireland travelled to the village to perform in main venues like Derry’s and Clancy’s including Well Enough Alone and Tin Box Company from Dublin, Woodbine from Athy, Bending the Strings from Monaghan, Knotty Pine String Band and the Down and Out Bluegrass Band from Belfast.
It wasn’t just the brilliant sounds of music in the pubs across Bruff throughout the weekend though. Plenty of other events featured including music workshops by the many visiting Bluegrass experts themselves for those wanting to learn the art of Bluegrass, the Longboat Memorial 10K run and walk, a 50k cycle, a gospel mass, Soap Box Derby, Donkey Derby, a HillbillyTractor Run in association with the Cliona Ring Foundation, Horseshoe pitching and a carnival, to name but a few. There was even a fireworks display which brought this year’s event to a perfect conclusion and congratulations to everyone involved with organising and supporting this year’s festival!
