Fairview Rangers AFC

First into action were our under 14 team, who travelled to play A/Annacotty in the league on Saturday.
We maintained our lead at the top of the table by virtue of a well merited win by a 5-1 margin.
A fine hat trick by ace marksman Adam Marshall, and two strikes by Andrew Brosnahan were our scorers on the day, with good performances by David Thompson, Dara Finn and Adam McCarthy.
Our 14’s are on a great run at the moment, with each of the panel playing their part.
Also on Saturday our under 16 team entertained Newport in the Fairgreen, but this one was in the national cup.
The lads have not had the “rub of the Green” in their last few matches, but that changed on Saturday, when we had a resounding 5-1 win over a good Newport side.
So to the match itself, in what was essentially a fine team performance, one has to mention a brilliantly taken hat trick by Dylan Blackhall added to with goals from Brandon McAuliffe and Stephen O’Shaughnessy.
Others to catch the eye were Darren Martin, Craig Kelly, Shane Wallace and Corey Nash.
Team: Rian McNamara, Shane Wallace, Jason Lipper, Darren Martin, Craig Kelly, Ben Wallace, Brandon McAuliffe, Stephen O’Shaughnessy, Corey Nash, Shaun Madigan, Dylan Blackhall, Sean Canty, Conor Roche, John McAuliffe, Fionn Mulhall, Trevor Daly.
Lastly on the schoolboy front our 10’s team made it three wins from three for the club, with a fine 6-3 win over limerick.
We raced into a 3-0 lead, with goals from Oisin Williams, Scott Quaid and Aaron Vaughan, a lead which stood until the short whistle.
Both teams matched each other for goals in the second half, with a second goal from Oisin Williams, a fine effort by Sean Rice, and a sweet strike by Jamie Lyons completing our tally.
Others to shine on the day were Rhys Kiely, Jamie O’Neill and Johnny Fitzgerald.
That’s three wins, two draws and a defeat for our young colts, with the management giving each of the panel as much game time as possible, and rightly so.
Sunday morning then, with our A team playing Granville in the league.
An even enough first half saw us go in leading one nil at half time, due to an excellent piece of skill by Karl Turner, albeit with the help of a slight deflection.
Granville equalised through a penalty half way through the second half, and we were also reduced to ten men for the same incident.
Matters got worse when Granville took the lead with about 15 minutes remaining, and then added another two before the final whistle.
On Sunday afternoon, both our minor and B teams were in action, both playing corbally, with our minor team at home and the B team playing away.
The minor team had a great start to this Munster Minor cup match, with Darren Roche converting a penalty, and Kieran Long scoring an absolute peach of a goal, to leave 2-0 up at half time.
Corbally scored early in the second half, but two more goals from Kieran Long (making another hat trick for the player, and closed to 20 goals for the season so far) saw us win this one 4-2 with corbally getting their second towards the end of the game.
Our B team also had a good start to their encounter taking a 1-0 but unfortunately, yet again, we went down by the narrowest of margins.
Having lead on two separate occasions, with goals from Thomas Hehir (2) and Wayne Lee, we still lost this game on a 4-3 score line.
It is frustrating for all involved, particularly the management, when you are not having the rub of the green, but seasons are often all about swings and roundabouts, so hopefully the lads will start getting a bit of luck in the up and coming fixtures.

Limerick Hockey Club

Limerick men’s 1st team made it two wins out of two on Sunday with a 5-3 win over Harlequins. Despite not playing particularly well the home side were always in control, dominating pocession and creating far more opportunities. Phillip Brennan got a hattrick with Jonny Powell and a great Cathal Duggan goal got the plaudits, but Keith Benson was again strong in defence keeping the Quins attack under control. Next up is Church of Ireland away on the 3rd November. Team-J.Scheffel, R. Doherty, G. Morrow, K. Benson, B. Fitzell, T. Clarke, A. Smith, R. Clarke, P. Brennan, J. Powell, N. Eacrett, J. Smith, C. Duggan, A. Khan.

Limerick men’s 2nd team also played Harlequins on Sunday. Domanining most of the game, Limerick were unable to convert their opportunities to goals.  It took 25 minutes for Mark Coleman to get the first goal.  In the second half, Limerick started strongly and Jeffrey Smith scored.  Harlequins got a goal late in the game, and applied the pressure in the closing 10 minutes, but Limerick kept them out.  A strong game from new German keeper Martis Frank, particlarly late in the second half to prevent Harlequins from getting the draw. Team – M. Frank, D. Barkman, C. Morrow, M. Houghton, J. Smith, A. Smith, A. Tutty, C. Duggan, K. Beck, A. Combalia, S. Cheatly, D. Cheatly, M. Coleman

Old Christians GAA Club

U 16 Hurling:   Our season ended last Saturday evening in Mick Neville Park, when Killuta Gaels beat us in the hurling shield final.  The game started brightly when both sides traded points and every ball was contested fiercely. Ken Byrnes our young left full forward hit a purple patch scoring 2-02 mid way through the opening half and we looked set to push on and claim the silverware. However our opponents had different ideas and they rose to the challenge we put up. Our lead was quickly reduced and even found ourselves a point behind at half time.  Killuta Gaels started the second half with the momemtum in their favour. Unfortunately we were not able to break our opponents grip on the game and eventhough we gave tried valiantly we were well defeated in the end, final scoreline Old Christians 2-09 Killuta Gaels 3-13, we send our congratulations to Killuta Gaels.  The  panel of players were, Jack Banks, Jake McNamara, Adam Purcell, Gary Muldoon, Cian Maher, Kevin Howard, Jonathan Roche, Luke Fitzgerald, Ian Coates, Thomas Myles, Darragh Kelly, Dylan Blackhall, Marcus Fitzgerald, Dylan Lyons, Ken Byrnes, Declan Barry, and Corey Kelly.

U 12 and 10 Hurling:  As the evenings are drawing in, we will continue our training indoors in our sports hall. Training for the u10’s will be at 6:15 – 7:15pm and our u12’s 7:15 – 8:15pm.

A special thanks Noeleen Clancy and Teresa Byrnes for organising the bag packing last weekend, well done to all who gave their time.

Na Piarsaigh GAA Club

What a difference a week makes!! This time last week we were celebrating on the double but this week it is the reverse following two defeats over the weekend.
MINOR HURLERS

We travelled to Kilmallock to renew old rivalry with Doon. This was a repeat of the 2011 Under 16 final between two evenly matched teams. Once again there was very little to separate the two teams. We began well and matched our opponents pace for pace with ace free taker Ronan Lynch keeping the scoreboard ticking over. Our backs were busy repelling their men and were doing quite well. it was a long speculative shot which found its way to the net which finally unlocked our defence. They followed this up with three quick fire points to put them six points clear and alarm bells began to ring. However in true spirited Na Piarsaigh fashion the lads responded with two points of their own to trail by four points at the break. We were much improved in the second half with David Dempsey in particular shaking off the shackles of his marker to contribute three second half points.
Then came our goal which was well worked to find Dylan Cronin in space to rifle the ball to the net and when Ronan Lynch pointed a long range free it looked good for the lads. Unfortunately with time just about up we were caught with a killer blow when Doon found the net from an acute angle.
Try as we might there was too little time to recover, eventhough we did have a late close in free which was blocked by the Doon rearguard.
It was heartbreak for the lads but nevertheless the club are extremely proud of this very good bunch of players who represented the club with great pride and passion all year.
Final Score: Doon 2-17  Na Piarsaigh 1-18.
Team: Jack Ryan(capt), Peader Collins, Gordon Brown, Michael Andrews, Evan O Brien, Michael Casey, Conor Houlihan, Josh O Halloran, Ronan Lynch(0-11f), Dylan Cronin(1-1), David Dempsey(0-4), Thomas Grimes, Conor Boylan(0-1), Kieran Daly(0-1), Peter Casey. Sub used: David Broderick, Robbie Graham, Lee Coughlan, Eoghan Shannon, Marcus McManemy, Evan Gilvarry, Cian Doherty, Eoghan Foley, Jason Callinan, Ian Considine, Kevin Daly
Thanks to Dan Lynch,David Lynch, Pat Gleeson, Liam Lyons, Daragh Kennedy and Dan Graham for all their hard work throughout the year.

JUNIOR HURLERS

Our junior hurlers were in County Junior Quarter Final action on Sunday morning when they travelled to Clarina to take on Feenagh Kilmeedy. In a low scoring first half we struggled to create opportunities and it was Michael Broughams frees that  accounted for our first half tally We trailed by one at the break by 0-05 to 0-04. The second half followed a similiar trend and once again we were struggling to add to the scoreboard.
Second half scores from Robert Sheehan, Kieran Daly, Aidan Hennessy and Mike Brougham(3frees) proved to be too little in a half that promised much more. Overall an extremely disappointing performance in which Paul McNamara, Gordon Brown and Mark Buckley were our top performers.
Final Score Na Piarsaigh 0-10  Feenagh Kilmeedy 0-015
Team: Evan Egan, Alan Sherlock, Paul McNamara, Gordon Brown, Mark Buckley, Michael Foley, Kevin McNamara, Mike Brougham(0-7f),
Aidan Hennessy(0-1), Robert Sheehan(0-1), Paul Downes, Eoin Hogan, Mark Ryan, Pat McCarthy, Eoghan Keogh. Subs: Gordon Leonard, Kieran Daly(0-1), Kevin Hodnett, Dylan Cronin
We thank Tomas Downes, Eoin Moriarty and Chris Graham for their efforts throughout the year who brought the Sweet Afton Cup back to the club.

UNDER 10 HURLERS

Last Friday evening our U/10 hurlers played Ballybrown in a fantastic game. The “old field” in Clarina was the venue and and many agreed afterwards that it was one of the most exciting clashes between us and our great rivals . Ballybrown started at a great pace and we found ourselves 5 points behind within 10 minutes. Na Piarsaigh settled as the 1st half progressed and as our half backs and midfield grew in confidence , more and more ball was been delivered to our forward line where Cian Brosnan , Charles Hogan and Patrick O’ Neill started to impress. We were trailing at half time by 7 points but a  great start to the 2nd half by our midfielders and half forwards brought the gap between the sides to 3 points. A great goal by Patrick O’ Neill levelled the game giving  us a deserved draw. All our lads played very well and showed great fighting spirit against an excellent Ballybrown team. We go to Murroe Boher next week where that same determination will be needed again.

Despite the excitement of the County Final win we still managed our Monday night lotto draw. Numbers drawn were 06, 13, 22, 28. Pallasgreen GAA Club

Club Fixtures.

Our Junior B hurlers took on Blackrock on Sunday in the County quarter-final in Bruff. A strong showing in the first half with Shane Murphy tapping over the frees and points from play from Shane, John Kirby and Conor O’Dwyer saw Pallasgreen go in at the break leading by nine points to seven. Blackrock started off strongly in the second half scoring a quick goal and point, before a melee involving most of the players of both teams saw John Kirby and the Blackrock centre back sent off. Pallasgreen picked themselves up late on and through the accurate shooting of Shane Murphy were able to draw level with just minutes to spare. Extra time however saw the small size of the Pallasgreen squad tell, and with only one substitute available tired legs were not afforded a rest. Blackrock pulled away at the death to win by 1-17 to 0-15. Scorers were: Shane Murphy 0-10 (8 frees, 1 “65”), Conor O’Dwyer 0-3, John Kirby 0-2.

Juvenile club Fixtures.

Sunday also saw our U-16 hurlers line out at Bruff, playing against Mungret in the division two county final. From the start the Pallasgreen players were hungry for the ball, and they raced into a lead they were never to relinquish. Alan Cosgrave was the main scorer in the first half contributing mainly from frees, and a goal by David Hannon near half time put Pallasgreen into a comfortable lead of 1-7 to four points at the break. The second half saw Pallasgreen start very strongly with an early goal and two points, however Mungret started chipping away at the lead. The Pallasgreen defence were resolute however and matched the Mungret forwards all match to ensure that the cup came home to Pallasgreen on a final score of 2-9 to 0-12. Scorers were: David Hannon 2-1, Alan Cosgrave 0-5 (4 frees), Mark Firgerald and Conor Roche a point each.

Our U-6, U-8 and U-10 teams were involved in a hurling blitz in Doon on Saturday where they gave a good exhibition of their skills. Congratulations to all the players who took part on the day, and well done.

Darren Hanrahan took charge and will be delighted with the result and will look forward to the coming challenges with great optimism. Those to play well were Ryan Meagher, Dermot Fitzgerald, and Gearoid Hegarty. Team and scorers were

U14 Hurling

The long awaited U14 County hurling final took place on Saturday morning in Mick Neville Park in Rathkeale. The U14 squad have put in a lot of training under team manager Sean Maher, Coach Andy Hannigan and selectors Barry Hannigan, Ian Blake and Chris Mortell. After the semi-final win, the Saints were confident but not complement. A full squad of 25 assembled on Saturday morning and the Saints made the journey out to Rathkeale to take on Granagh Ballingarry in the final.

Straight from the throw in the Saints midfield pairing of Conor Hayes and Eoin O Regan delivered ball into the forwards. With Calvin Moran in great form the Saints raced into 4 points to no score lead. Granagh Ballingarry hit straight back through a well taken goal putting pressure right back on the Saints. At half time the teams went in with St Patrick’s in a 2-8 to 1-4 lead. With all 6 forwards moving and interacting well and the runs of Conall Broderick causing huge problems for the Granagh defence the Saints knew that another half of hurling like this would see them become county champions.

In the second half the Saints traded points with the Granagh Ballingarry team and slowly slipped into a 9 point lead. Again Granagh Ballingarry showed exactly why they had made the final by taking 2 quick fire goals and reducing the gap to 3 points. The Saints looked rattled and had to dig deep to regain control of the game. The defence rallied and James Neville and Adam O Regan repelled several attacks by Granagh. As the ball broke up field, Diarmuid Hegarty picked up the ball and delivered an unstoppable shot into the Granagh goals to give the Saints a 6 point lead. From that point on the Saints were back in command of the game and ran out convincing winners on a score line of 8-12 to 4-8. The St Patrick’s supporters cheered on James Neville as he received the cup and commiserated with the Granagh Ballingarry players who had played so well and had pushed St Patrick’s so close throughout the final.

However it was a real squad effort throughout the season and also in the final that saw the county title being added to the Feile title won back in July. From Cathal Keogh in goals right through the entire squad each and every player has trained hard and has improved their hurling by huge amounts. The team and U14 hurling squad is as follows.

Cathal Keogh, Diarmuid Cronin, James Neville (Captain), Sean Doyle, Jack O’Hanlon, Adam O’Regan, Travis Quaid,  Conor Hayes, Eoin O’Regan,  Calvin Moran, Conall Broderick, Diarmuid Hegarty, Craig O’Neill, Kevin Madden, Billy Power, Aaron Kelly, Jack Doyle, Sean Mortell, Jack Walsh, Luke Hayes, Conor O’Sullivan, Adam McNamara, Ian Pickford, Andrew McMahon, Nathan O’Shaughnessy,  Sean Neville,  Adam Phelan.

Well done to all the boys involved this year. It has proven to be a great year for St Patrick’s and one on which we can build for the future. Many thanks to all the squad for their hard work and commitment over the year and to the parents and supporters that came along to give much needed support on the day. Also thanks to the management team that worked with these players and have developed a very strong squad that hopefully will deliver more success for St Patrick’s on the hurling field.
