Students to protest Taoiseach at UL

Report by Andrew Carey

Disgruntled students are to stage a peaceful protest outside the University of Limerick this Thursday morning to highlight the disquiet raised by cuts in Budget 2014.

Lorna Bogue with the University’s An Focal publication took to Facebook in the wake of the budget cuts that “targeted people our age”.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny is scheduled to be on UL campus this Thursday morning for a number of key university announcements and engagements highlighting the university’s key developments and research advancements.

However, Lorna has called on the student body to voice their opinion at a protest.

“Obviously, given the way that the budget specifically targeted people our age, e.g. The €25 million cut to the higher education budget, the increase of the reg fee by €250 and the reduction of Unemployment benefit to €144 for those under the age of 26, we should register the fact that we’re basically being told to emigrate.

Unhappy and left with no option, students are being rallied for a peaceful protest with one message;

“Let’s let Enda Kenny know that we aren’t going to take this lying down”.
