Man denies attack with slash hook

A VIOLENT attack with a slash hook in a Limerick city housing estate last year has been denied by a 24-year-old Limerick man.

Michael “Knapp” Ryan of St Munchin’s Street, St Mary’s Park pleaded not guilty at Limerick Circuit Court to the charge of assault causing serious harm to David “Bunter” Moran. He also denied a charge of assault causing the alleged injured party harm.

Outlining the case for the prosecution, John O’Sullivan BL, said that the incident is alleged to have happened in the early hours of October 21, 2012 last.

Michael ‘Knapp’ Ryan is accused of causing Mr Moran serious harm at St Mary’s Park and Mr O’Sullivan said it was alleged that he attacked the other man with a slash hook.

A jury of 11, six men and five women, has been sworn in to hear the trial which is scheduled to last until the end of the week. Mr Moran is expected to give evidence in the case which is due to be heard by Judge Carroll Moran.
