A PREGNANT Limerick mother has been jailed for shoplifting from a family business in Killaloe.

Just four weeks from her delivery date, Margaret Casey (30) of the Clonlong halting site in Southill was jailed for four months after she pleaded guilty to two thefts from Queally’s SuperValu supermarket in Killaloe last July and August.

Along with her sister-in-law, Mary Bridget Faulkner (22), also of the Clonlong halting site, Ms Casey stole nappies, baby food, cosmetics and deodorant on July 4, 2013. A month later, the two women stole similar items and an iron, bringing the total value of the goods taken to €200.

Sentencing Margaret Casey to four months in prison, Judge Patrick Durcan referred to the fact that she had 35 previous convictions and said that the message had to go out that this would not be tolerated.
