A CONVICTED sex offender who assaulted two young Limerick girls on the Dublin LUAS while on the way to a Rihanna concert, will be sentenced next April after the case was adjourned for a second time.

53-year-old John Daly is a serial sex offender and three months ago he was arrested after he boarded a tram at the Dublin concert venue following a concert by teenage boy band One Direction.

Gardai reviewed CCTV footage and he had been identified as a suspect in the sexual attack of the girls.

In interview, he admitted to gardai that he boarded the tram to touch young girls and get sexually aroused.

With an address at Cabra Park, Phibsboro, Daly was doing this for his “own satisfaction” he admitted to gardai and when the matter came before the Dublin Criminal Court she pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual assault on October 3, 2011.

Previously, Daly was sentenced to three years in prison with one suspended in February 2000 for sex offences.

On appeal by the DPP as to its leniency, the prison term was increased to six years.

The serial offender has convictions for attempted rape and sexual assault in the early 80s and for the aggravated sexual assault of a 62-year-old woman in 1997.

Judge Mary Ellen Ring had revoked Daly’s bail and remanded him in custody pending the completion of report by the Probation Services.

The court was told that further assessments were needed to complete the report and allow the Probation Service offer its recommendations regarding treatment for Daly.

The matter was adjourned until April 28 next.
