FOUR large trees have come down in the storm at the University Hospital in Dooradoyle.

The trees fell from their position along the hospital boundary near the side entrance to the old Nurses Home in Dooradoyle.

Emergency traffic arrangements are in place. The side road is now blocked and the hospital side entrance via the Nurses Home has been closed for safety reasons.

Staff, patients and visitors have been warned to stay away from the area and on no account venture out to look at the incident.

A spokesman for the hospital said that the trees are Macrocarpa, an evergreen variety that was quite commonly planted in  county Limerick in the past.

“Professional tree surgeons inspect all trees on the hospital campus regularly and an extensive programme of pruning was carried out in December during which a number of older trees were felled,” the spokesman said.
