Kids run for fun at Great Limerick Run

Kids Fun Run 01IRELAND’s largest single mass participation event for children is now set to take place in the city on the eve of the Great Limerick Run.

The UL Sports Kids Run for Fun will get underway on the grounds of the University of Limerick on Saturday May 3, prior to the big race event in the city the following day.

This is the second year of this event and numbers participating will be capped at 2,000 children aged between 4 and 12. Speaking at the fun run launch this week, co-organiser Joe Leddin described it is an important step in the ongoing development of the Barrington’s Hospital Great Limerick Run race series.

“The four race distances in the UL Sports Kids Run for Fun races are designed to encourage children from all sections of society to participate in sport and healthy activity,” Mr Leddin explained.

Meanwhile, coordinator of the Limerick Sports Partnership, Phelim Macken commented: “The training sessions at local primary schools will give children the advice and motivation needed to encourage them to participate in the UL Sports Kids Run for Fun. We also hope that the sessions and the event itself will help promote physical activity on a wider level throughout the year.”
