COUNTY Clare rapper God Knows and producer/DJ mynameisjOhn, based in Limerick, have collaborated on a new 11 track album ‘Rusangano / Family’. MC God Knows is one of the Shannon based Random Acts Of Kindness collective (RAOK).. mynameisjOhn is the turntablist and electronic beats producer who already has a wealth of impressive self released material on bandcamp.com.
Described by the duo as a record produced when a, “Zimbabwean Christian and an Irish pagan sit down with a pot of tea,” this album delivers on the immense promise shown on previous collaborations on ‘The Struggle EP’ and ‘The Focusing Effect EP’.
It fuses soul, grime, hip hop, sometimes Afrobeat with MC God Knows flows about being a black man growing up in Shannon and the duo’s ambitions to keep pushing musical boundaries. An astoundingly good record.
This week MC God Knows and DJ mynameisjOhn will share the stage with Snoop Dogg. They will support hip hop’s Doggfather at The Academy, Dublin this Tuesday June 10 and Wednesday June 11. ‘Rusangano / Family’ is available now on bandcamp.com. The album will be launched as part of Limerick’s Make a Move Festival on July 4.
