YouthBank Awards Grants in Askeaton

ASKEATON-Ballysteen Youth Club,the Butterfly Club and local band Back the Tracks were among the recipients of this year’s YouthBank scheme in Askeaton Community Centre,Co.Limerick.

Facilitated by Limerick Youth Service, Limerick County’s Youth Bank-known as AskBank is run by young  people with a committee elected to recruit members,decide on the funding criteria and allocate grants. The funding enables the groups to run programmes or purchase equipment.

Ciara Mc Sweeney,Junior Leader,Askeaton-Ballysteen Youth Club said that her club’s funding enabled the junior leaders to take some members to a residental at Ballyhass Lakes Activity Centre where they participated in various activities and got to know each other.

Ciara added that without the support of YouthBank this could not have happened ‘we couldn’t have run the trip without the grant as we simply did not have the funding in our club’.

Joe Walsh,YouthBank Co-ordinator,Limerick Youth Service said that the AskBank Committee excelled in making this year’s YouthBank a great success.

‘They gave it their all and this experience will certainly stand to them in the future,’ said Mr. Walsh.
