Greyhound Recycling and Recovery has given and undertaking to the High Court to remove over 3600 tonnes of waste from their facility at Galvone in Limerick.

The move came as Limerick City and County Council initiated injunction proceedings this Friday in the High Court before Justice Patrick McCarthy, under the Waste Management Act 1996.

The Limerick authority was seeking orders from the court directing that Greyhound Recycling and Recovery to remove the waste from their facility at Galvone. Serious issues surrounding odours from the materials had been affecting local residents.

The company gave an undertaking to the court to commence the removal of the waste and to have the entire site cleared in three weeks with a deadline for completion set at Friday October 10 next.

Secondly, in response to Council concerns about safety and vandalism, the company undertook to provide 24 hour security on site until the waste has been fully cleared.

The court adjourned the matter to October 14 next, with liberty granted to the local authority to apply to the court in the event the undertaking isn’t being complied with.
