Anti-Austerity Alliance councillor for City East, Paul Keller, who lives in the estate, joined a group of 20 residents who have been protesting in the area on rotation throughout the day since 7.20am.

When Irish Water subcontractors arrived this morning residents picketing at the entrance of the estate refused to let them in.

“They have parked opposite the estate and made a few attempts to enter the estate, but have been stopped by protesters on each occasion,” Cllr Keller revealed.

A community meeting is now being organised in nearby estate Oakwood for this evening to organise similar resistance there.
