Credit Union director charged over alleged fraud

A DIRECTOR of a county Limerick credit union has been charged with attempting to defraud AXA insurance of €52,000 contrary to common law.

Pat Laffin, 61, of Tullovin, Croom appeared before Limerick District Court this Wednesday on the charge dating back to December 16 of last year

When charged, the court was told that Mr Laffin replied “I understand”.

Judge Aeneas McCarthy was told that the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed that the case was to proceed by way of trial on indictment at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court.

The case was adjourned until January 14 to allow for the service and preparation of a book of evidence and Mr Laffin, who is a director of Rathkeale and District Credit Union, was released on his own continuing bail.
