TALENTED Evan O’Byrne (St Michael’s RC) will represent Ireland at the U19 European Rowing Championships in Brandenburg, Germany, this weekend.
O’Byrne, a Leaving Certificate student at Ardscoil Rís, will partner Mattias Cogan of Skiereen RC (Cork) in the Men’s Park (JM2).
While financial support is available from Rowing Ireland, competitors such as O’Byrne are also dependent on local backing. For the Limerick rower, support came forward in the shape of Ishka Irish Spring Water of Ballyneety.
“This backing from Ishka is huge, and I am most grateful,” O’Byrne said. “It allows me to focus on the immediate task at hand, that of representing my country on the international stage.”
