Shooting accused denies causing harm to brother and sister

THE trial of Limerick man charged in connection with an alleged shooting in County Limerick last summer where a man and his pregnant sister were both injured, has opened at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court.

33-year-old Thomas McCarthy has denied two counts of assault causing harm to Gerard Hennessy and his sister Collette on the afternoon of August 13, 2014 at Castleview Estate in Newcastle West.

When arraigned before Judge Tom O’Donnell, this Tuesday morning, the 33-year-old accused also denied having in his possession a firearm with the intent to endanger life on the same date.

Prosecuting Counsel for the State, Michael Collins, BL, said that the case is expected to last into next week before a jury of eight men and four women.

The court heard that the case is also expected to hear evidence from a number of consultant surgeons from both Limerick and Cork as well as meteorologist Vincent O’Shea of Met Eireann.
