THE Irish Wire Products Senior Football championship returns this weekend as the competition enters its fourth round.
In group one, two points separate the six teams with the top three sides locked on four points from the first three rounds.
This weekend will be a make or break weekend for all sides, as the top three take on the bottom three sides. First up, Drom/Broadford take on Pallasgreen, with St Patrick’s facing Monaleen in a City derby. The final game of Group 1 sees Ballylanders face Rathkeale.
Group 2 is just as tight, however Newcastlewest have some daylight at the top. The side from West Limerick have a 100 per cent record from their opening three games and this weekend they take on Adare in the Bog Garden.
St Kieran’s and Ballysteen are locked on four points, as they look to secure a top three finish and a play off sport. St Kieran’s take on Na Piarsaigh, while Ballysteen take on Fr Casey’s.
In the intermediate championships, table toppers in Group 1, Bruff, take on Mountcollins, while second placed Claughaun take on St Senan’s. The other tie in the round sees Castlemahon face Hospital/ Herbertstown.
In Group 2, the top two sides do battle as Galbally face Oola, while third and fourth also face off, when Athea play Mungret. The final fixture in Pool 2 is the meeting of Glin and Cappamore.
Meanwhile, on the hurling front, Patrickswell and Kilmallock have both secured their passage into the play offs of the County Senior hurling championships. The two sides, who meet in the last round of games, both have 100 per cent records so far this season. Indeed, the meeting of the two teams, on the last weekend in August, will decide who goes straight into a county semi final and who has to enter the quarter finals. In the same group, South Liberties (3 points), Murroe/ Boher (2 points) and Ahane (2 points) are all still in the race for a quarter final.
In group 2, Na Piarsaigh are through to the knock stage also, as they sit atop the group in seven points. Second place is currently occupied by Ballybrown (5 points) on scoring difference from Adare. With Doon and Croom yet to play their game in hand on August 14, it looks as if group 2 is also going to go down to the wire in terms of final placings.
