FLY-tipping has almost reached epidemic levels in County Limerick.

That’s the view of Fianna Fáil councillor Richard O’Donoghue who wants something done to catch offenders who have “no respect for our county and continue to dump rubbish along our roadways and ditches”.

The Adare-Rathkeale public representative says that over the last number of weeks, there has been “disgusting” incidences of household and industrial rubbish being dumped all over the county from Fedamore to Kilmallock, Meanus to Granagh, Kilfinny, Croom and Ballingarry.

“I am disgusted at the behaviour of those who have no respect whatsoever for County Limerick. These dumpers must be caught and prosecuted and have heavy fines imposed on them to deter future offences,” he said.

“The disposal of rubbish has been made easier by our local council and by refuse collection operators along with recycling centres all over the county. The majority of the residents of county Limerick are glad to avail of the services provided but there is a minority that are too lazy and care little for our beautiful countryside.”

Cllr O’Donoghue is now calling on people to be on the look-out for illegal dumping in their areas.

“We must work together to identify the offenders and when we identify them I will insist that the Council and the Courts deal with them,” he added.
