Teens rescued from stricken boat in Shannon

THREE teens have been rescued after the boat they were in on the River Shannon lost power and began to drift down stream.

Shortly after 7.45pm Limerick Fire and Rescue Service were mobilised to the River Shannon at Brown’s Quay after receiving reports that a boat with the three teens on board had lost power and was drifting down the river Shannon.

Theee units including the fire service boat “fire swift” with 3 Swift water Rescue Swimmers on board were mobilised to the scene.

Within three minutes of receiving the call, fire swift made contact with the stricken boat along with the other emergency services on scene and brought the teens to safety.

Members of the Limerick Marine Search and Rescue and Limerick Civil Defence, who were training on the river at the time, also assisted in the rescue when they were notified by the Irish Coast Guard.

The stricken boat, with one of the teens, was towed to a nearby slipway by Limerick Marine Search and Rescue while the other teens were brought ashore by Fire and Rescue personnel.

There were no reported injuries.
